The Tug-of-War Championship was held with great enthusiasm.

As part of the events for the May 19 Atatürk Commemoration, Youth, and Sports Day, under the leadership of our Mut District Representative Yücel Buğdaycı; the Tug-of-War Championship—organized in collaboration with the Mut District Governor’s Office, Mut Municipality, District Youth and Sports Directorate, and District National Education Directorate—was held with great enthusiasm. At the awards ceremony held at the end of the championship, we were proud to present medals, trophies, and certificates of achievement. Additionally, on this meaningful day, our Federation President Eray ALDEMİR presented National Team jerseys to our esteemed guests in commemoration of the championship. The Excitement of May 19 in Mut Was Celebrated with a Tug-of-War Championship As part of the events for the week of May 19, Atatürk Commemoration, Youth, and Sports Day, the Inter-High School Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ Tug-of-War Championship was organized in collaboration between the Mut District Youth and Sports Directorate and the Mut District Branch of the Tug-of-War Federation. At the event, organized with the support of the Mut District Governor’s Office and district public institutions, our Federation President Eray ALDEMİR and the young participants competed under the slogan “Hold On to the Rope, Hold On to Life.” The students gave their all with great enthusiasm during the championship. The top-ranking schools are as follows: Junior Girls’ Category 1. Osman Nuri Yalman Anatolian High School 2. Şehit Ali Gümüş Science High School 3. Şehit Emin Çelik Anatolian High School 4. The Excitement of April 23 Was Crowned with Tug-of-War Competitions

The Excitement of April 23 Was Crowned with Tug-of-War Competitions As part of the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrations, an unforgettable event was organized in collaboration with the Tug-of-War Federation and Mr. Aziz Filiz, the neighborhood head of Hüseyin Okan Merzeci. The event, which drew significant interest from neighborhood residents and sports enthusiasts, featured tug-of-war competitions held with great enthusiasm. The competitions, where numerous athletes from different age groups competed fiercely, provided a colorful spectacle. At the conclusion of the event, our Federation presented “Certificates of Participation” to the participants as a token of appreciation for their efforts and participation. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the athletes who came together on this meaningful day to once again demonstrate the unifying power of sports, as well as to the volunteers who contributed to the organization and everyone who provided support.

European Tug-of-War Federation Congress

The European Tug-of-War Federation Congress Was Held in Belgrade, the Capital of Serbia, from April 11–13, 2025 The European Tug-of-War Federation Congress, held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, from April 11–13, 2025, was attended by our Federation President Eray ALDEMİR and General Secretary Recep Yurtsever, representing our country. During the Congress, the results of the 2024 activities were evaluated, and the 2025 budget and work plan were approved. In addition, plans were made for international competitions to be held in 2025, 2026, and 2027, and elections were held for the Federation’s Executive Board, General Coordination, Auditors, and Candidacy Commission. Furthermore, the membership application of a new candidate country was reviewed, and its admission to membership was discussed. Mr. Anders Anderson, Secretary General of the European Tug-of-War Federation, presented the final report for 2024 to the participants and provided information regarding the action plan for 2025. During the meeting, our Federation President, Mr. Eray ALDEMİR, delivered a comprehensive presentation on current activities related to the sport of tug-of-war in our country as well as future projects; he provided participants with detailed information on the development of tug-of-war in Turkey, its organizational capacity, and its openness to international cooperation. This conference, during which important contacts were established to enhance our country’s presence in the sport of tug-of-war and increase its visibility on the international stage, proved to be highly productive in terms of both the exchange of information and opportunities for collaboration.

THE 2025 SEMINAR WAS HELD

2025 SEMINAR HELD The Tug-of-War Federation held its 2025 seminar on February 20 (Zoom meeting) and on Saturday, February 22, 2025, as part of the Mersin Regional Seminar. Federation President Eray Aldemir, Education Committee Chair M. Naci Durmaz, Central Referees Committee Chair Recep Yurtsever, committee members, coaches, and referees attended the event. During the meeting, the federation’s history was discussed, and its development process from the past to the present was evaluated. Detailed discussions were held regarding the formation of committees, the planning of training programs, and events to be organized throughout the year. The focus was on promoting the sport of rope pulling and strengthening the training processes for referees, coaches, and athletes. The Federation emphasized the need to carry out activities scheduled for 2025 in a disciplined and efficient manner. While highlighting the importance of organizations that contribute to the development of the sport, the necessity for all stakeholders to work in collaboration was stressed. In the coming period, the Tug-of-War Federation will continue to support athletes, coaches, and referees through officially organized events and training programs with broader participation at Provincial Sports Directorates. Organized by the Turkish Tug-of-War Federation, the tug-of-war competitions held at Vali Sabahattin Çakmakoğlu Elementary School were attended by Federation President Eray ALDEMİR, Federation Education Committee Chair M. Naci Durmaz, and Central Referees Committee Chair Recep Yurtsever. As the Tug-of-War Federation, we provided our students and teachers with an unforgettable experience. We were extremely pleased by the interest and enthusiasm shown for the competitions. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this meaningful event, especially School Principal Ahmet Yıldırım, as well as our teachers and students. It is a great honor for us to introduce a traditional sport like tug-of-war to a wider audience and to discover talent in this field. Mr. Eray ALDEMİR, President of the Turkish Tug-of-War Federation, accompanied by Mr. M. Naci Durmaz, Chairman of the Federation’s Education Committee, paid a visit to Mr. Kaya Tepe, President of the Mersin Journalists’ Association. During the visit, they exchanged views on topics such as strengthening inter-organizational cooperation and communication, promoting sports, and developing joint projects to inform the public. During the meeting, the role of the Tug-of-War Federation in introducing the sport to the public and the contributions of journalists in this process were emphasized. To commemorate the visit, Mr. Eray Aldemir, President of the Turkish Tug-of-War Federation, presented Mr. Kaya Tepe, President of the Mersin Journalists’ Association, with a Turkish National Tug-of-War Team jersey. During the visit, comprehensive discussions were held regarding the inclusion of tug-of-war as a sport within the Turkish Traditional Sports Federation. In this important meeting, the historical and cultural values of tug-of-war were emphasized, and steps to be taken to popularize the sport and reach more people across the country were discussed. Another meaningful moment of the visit was when President Eray Aldemir presented the Rope Pulling National Team jersey to Mersin Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Göksun Öz. President Aldemir emphasized that such visits are invaluable for promoting the sport and reaching broader audiences. The visit was recorded as an important step toward further promoting the sport of rope pulling, strengthening its infrastructure, and reviving traditional sports in Turkey.
